Secondo l’Istat sono almeno 170 mila i giovani tra i 15 e i 24 anni che assistono, spesso in solitudine, papà, mamma o un fratello con disabilità o «fragile». In Italia, secondo i dati ufficiali disponibili, elaborati dall’Istat ma che risalgono al 2011, sono almeno 170 mila i giovani careviger tra i 15 e i 24 anni. Un numero di certo sottostimato visto che la fascia d’età esaminata esclude i bambini più piccoli e i giovani adulti.

Ma come vivono questo ruolo? Quali ostacoli affrontano? Ricevono una qualche forma di supporto? Se ne parlerà il prossimo 10 febbraio a Carpi alla conferenza internazionale «Superare gli ostacoli: giovani caregiver (stranieri) in Europa», organizzata dall’organizzazione no profit “Anziani e non solo” col patrocinio dell’Unione Terre d’Argine e il cofinanziamento dell’Unione Europea (Programma “Erasmus plus”), nell’ambito del progetto pluriennale transnazionale Care2Work che punta a superare le barriere incontrate da giovani caregiver stranieri nell’accesso al lavoro, allo studio e al tirocinio. In quest’occasione saranno presentati i risultati della ricerca «I giovani con responsabilità di cura in Italia» realizzata nell’ambito di Care2Work.
La ricerca
«La nostra indagine — anticipa Licia Boccaletti, responsabile per l’Italia del progetto Care2Work — evidenzia ancora una scarsa attenzione al tema dei giovani caregiver che, troppo spesso, sono trascurati dai servizi, sia da quelli che si occupano di adolescenti sia da quelli sociali e sanitari». Tramite una revisione degli studi disponibili – condotti soprattutto in Paesi anglosassoni – e un’indagine qualitativa sul campo con interviste a giovani caregiver, gli autori della ricerca hanno identificato le implicazioni che le responsabilità di cura possono avere su adolescenti e giovani adulti che assistono familiari non autosufficienti o fragili.
